General Information

  • Tea, coffee and biscuits are available on public open days.
  • There is a plant stall on public open days.
  • There is a toilet (not accessible to wheelchair users).
  • Regrettably the garden is not accessible to wheelchair users because of the gravel surfaces.
  • Visitors are requested not to smoke in the garden.
  • Dogs are not allowed in the garden (except guide dogs).
If you come to York Gate on a Thursday, you can combine your visit with a tour of St John the Baptist church, Adel. Just 3 minutes walk from the garden, this church offers one of the finest examples of Norman church architecture in the country. Find out more at http://adelstjohnchurch.org.uk

Opening Times 2009Entrance Charges

5th April - 29th September:
Thursdays, Sundays & Bank Holiday Mondays, 2pm - 5pm

Open evenings: Tuesday 9th June, Wednesday 17th June & Thursday 25th June, 6.30pm - 9pm

Adults: £3.50 (£2.50 in September)
Children: (16 and under) Free
Season Ticket: (valid for one year) £8.50
RHS members are admitted free of charge in April, May & September (this does not apply to private visits)
The companion of a disabled visitor is admitted free of charge.
Private VisitsEntrance Charges

It is possible to visit at some other times between Easter and the end of September, however this does not include Thursday or Sunday mornings or any evening except public open evenings.

It is essential to book.

£6.50 per person, or £8 including tea/coffee and biscuits.

There is a minimum charge of £130 during the week and £195 on Saturdays.

Student VisitsEntrance Charges
Horticulture students may visit between 9am - 4pm during the week, at any time of the year.
It is also possible for universities and colleges to have the use of the garden and outbuilding for teaching purposes for a full day but this facility is only available in February, March & October. Visits must be booked by a college tutor.		Concessions Apply.
