See what a difference a gift in your Will could make
Here are some of the people who we have helped through the generosity of gifts in people's Wills.
When self-employed gardener Simon Shepherd slipped and fell into a running lawnmower blade, the accident resulted in partial amputation of three fingers, followed by a five month recovery period. Without his income Simon and his wife quickly ran into money problems and, at the suggestion of a customer, got in touch with Perennial. Our caseworker was able to advise on Simon's benefit entitlements, our debt advisor helped Simon manage an impending tax deadline and we also awarded a grant to help with the family's living expenses.
Simon has now recovered sufficiently to be able to return to gardening - a job he loves. "The thought of not being able to continue was very depressing but my hand has now gained strength and I am back working full time again - luckily my clients waited for my return. It's a real comfort to know that there is an organisation dedicated to helping those in horticulture and I am very grateful for all the help I received from Perennial, in what was a very scary situation."
Sunny Chana's garden centre in Saltaire lies between a canal and a river, with main access via a bridge over the canal. Out of the blue, following a period of heavy rain, the bridge was deemed unsafe by the water authority and closed for repairs, cutting off the business from its customers for seven months.
When he eventually got in touch us, Sunny really was in desperate straits. His car had been written off by vandals, so our help began with a grant to cover the cost of a replacement second-hand vehicle. When the bridge eventually re-opened, an additional grant from Perennial helped Sunny get back on his feet.
